Oakshotts for Giveaway Day

It's Giveaway Day at Sew Mama Sew. I have a beautiful bundle of Fat 1/8s to give away, courtesy of Michael Oakshott at Oakshott Fabrics. I have used Oakshott fabrics often in my quilts - if you are new here, you can check out the my quilts tab to see them, or look here, here, here and here.

This bundle of 12 fat 1/8s is called Lakes. Each of the 100% cotton fabrics is woven on a blue warp with different colours shot through as the weft. The challenge with these shot cottons is to capture in a photograph the shimmer that the different coloured weft threads creates. I went about looking for shining sun rays to help me out.

To win the giveaway, leave me just one comment per person and I will draw the winner randomly. Tell me about your favourite lake/ocean spot and why you like it or tell me about a lake/ocean location you are hoping to visit one day.

Please leave your email in your comment if you are not sure if you are a no-reply blogger (you can write it as yourname [at] emailservice [dot] com or whatever so that the email strippers won't recognize it if you are worried). If I cannot find you, you cannot win.

I'll close the giveaway on Friday May 16, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. PST and I will be drawing and contacting the winner by Sunday night. This giveaway is open to anyone in the world - I will send these fantastic fabrics to you wherever you might be.

I wish you all good luck now, as there are too many comments to answer during giveaways. Oh, and if you have not yet been, head over to Sew Mama Sew to enter all the other giveaways that will be linked there this week.

Best,

Leanne

We are blessed to be able to spend our summers on Eastern Long Island. The unique geographic location offers beaches that range from the smooth wide sands bordering the Atlantic Ocean, the rocky shores of Block Island and Long Island Sounds and Peconic and Gardiner's Bays.

My favorite ocean spot is the Central Oregon Coast. I like it because it's close enough to drive to, and it's gorgeous! Also, it's not a sunny warm beach, so I don't have to get swimsuit ready to go ;)

I love the Lake of Biel in Switzerland. I grew up here and came back again after living in England for almost eight years because I missed it. Thank you for a fantastic giveaway. Oakshott's are so beautiful, I have two quilts planned already but would be happy to add another one to the mix.

I like the Jersey Shore. It is very Americana and old fashioned. Three generations of family will walk down the street together hand in hand... Old fashioned fun rides, and the gentle sound of the surf! It refreshes the soul. I hope to see the UP of Michigan and the lake there some day

We spent summers at Candle Lake as a kid so it's a favourite but Lake Louise is right up there. Someday I would love to do a tour of all the lochs in the Scottish Highlands.

I have always wanted to go to a beach with White Sand - most of the ones on the east coast are rather brownish and white sounds so pretty!

A few summers ago my (now) husband and I rented a cabin on Lake Cayuga in NY (one of the finger lakes) - while we were there we eloped so it ended up being our honeymoon spot as well. It was just peaceful and beautiful and I can't wait until our son is old enough to go back and stay there again.

I love a tiny place in South Africa called Natures Valley. It has a beautiful lagoon that leads into a wild and wooly ocean. It is very special as I used to go there every holiday when I was growing up. I would love to go to a tropical island of some sort - one of those places with crystal clear warm water.

I'd be in heaven if I won this giveaway. I have been in love with the iridescence of shot cottons and silks since I can remember. I have one very small bundle of Oakshotts, which surpass the quality of anything else I've seen, and these would add to my mini collection. I have pictured in my mind small churn dash blocks on perhaps a yellow or cream background, but am not sure what the rest of the quilt is. I think these blocks are an inner border. It's growing in my mind. Or maybe this colorway would lend itself to being the focus of the quilt center. I'd have to see them and play with them to know for sure. Thanks to you and to Oakshott.

I've only been to a tropical beach twice -- at Negril in Jamaica and at Nusa Dua in Bali (while we were trying to get out of Indonesia when Suharto was overthrown). But I'd really like to see the tundra shores at Barrow, Alaska, where my nephew is working on an endangered bird protection program.

These would ad a beautiful shimmery dimension to a quilt. My favorite beach is a little place in Australia called Evans Head. I think there's around 5,500 people living there and two of them are my parents. It's nice and quiet, has a few different beaches and a beautiful saltwater river you can also swim in...what's not to like

I love the fabric, the colors are beautiful, people sometimes ask me why I sometimes have only solid colors in my quilts, and I always say most people use them only for background or backing, I let the block pattern showcase the solids, and these are just great with the shimmer......
