Insight and practice

Marmalade flowers

I ordered some plastic hexagon and parallelogram shapes so I could English Paper Piece without dealing with the paper. I ordered from Foltvilag Web Shop which is in Hungary. I find it so much nicer to use plastic templates for EPP. These templates also fold in half for edge bits and you can put a pin through them for starting. They arrived on Thursday.

Plastic EPP shapes

I immediately needed to try the templates out and did not feel like cutting fabric. So I had this very cute little 2.5" charm pack of Marmalade fabric by Bonnie and Camille that Chrissy (she has a lovely store too, Sew Lux Fabric) had given me because she thought she was late in my bee - which she was not really and, seriously, this is me we are talking about, a woman with a million other projects to work on, but it was such a nice thing for her to do anyway. These little tiny fabrics were the perfect size and I used them without any trimming.

The templates work really nicely and I stitched away. You can see the flowers are beautiful, with a very sweet and vintage feel. But this adorable fabric is just so not me. And I really did not truly realize that until now, so some insight has been gained.

Maybe I could gift them - I could sew them onto drawstring bags or zipper pouches or a pillow and give them to someone who loves sweet and vintage. Or maybe send them as is to a quilting friend who would use them. What would you do with them?

I am now warmed up for my turn on November 5 on the Travellin' Pic Stitch Blog Hop. I am going to have to find a set of fabrics and layout for my hexagons that is more "me", but first I am checking out my photos for one with a good palette. And I expect to do that today, as I am itching to try out those 1/2" hexagons, they are so little.

Enjoy your weekend, snow is falling again this morning but I am sure it is not here for long - and then it will be autumn again.

Best,

Leanne

Those templates look interesting - I have the 1" and 1.5" Sizzix dies now, so that will be the only size I ever make from now on!

I think you could put out a call for a 600 Follower giveaway - or just send them to me ;)

Hi Leanne! I love those fabrics and small hexies! Plastic templates must be really good but I'm wondering how you sew with them. I made my first EPP work (joining Laura, too) and I used paper templates and first I stitched the papers with the fabrics and then sew the pieces together.
Your last post is full of beautiful things! x Teje

I'm a little bit in love with that line. I just treated myself to a charm pack while I wait for yardage to be available (and for payday!)
I would string those beautiful flowers on some ribbon and make some gorgeous vintagey flowery bunting

These are just so pretty! I may have to get a little sticky with some Marmalade!

No, I agree, those fabrics aren't you. They are gorgeous, no denying that. But not your usual thing at all. I would use them as you said, as embellishments for other projects because they are too pretty to just abandon.

ooh, definitely use them for embellishments, they are sooo lovely: but I get they are not you.
Hope the snow clears up soon

I'm sure someone would be happy to take those pretty little hexies off your hands (wink..wink!) I agree that they would make pretty Spring bunting!

I had not seen those plastic hexies before - interesting! Alas, I love the look of hexies, but not really making them....

Really lovely wee flowers, I'd keep going until I had enough for a nice fat cushion cover, oooh I can picture it now, all crinkly and squishy... :-)

Cute hexies Leanne - I have to sort out my EPP for the blog hop too!

I'd make a cushion cover with these. Such a pretty line and if you have no more left you could maybe use scraps of solid that co-ordinates?

I am with Susan and Sarah. You should use them to embellish gifts. They certainly would make nice ones. Of course I like Hadley idea of a giveaway too. Pick me, pick me!

The fabrics are beautiful, but I agree, not really "you". It seems like there are plenty of people willing to take them off your hands! I've considered trying EPP as an on-the-go project and I love your choice for templates. Seems much better than paper!

Those templates look interesting. Bizarre that you have to buy them from Poland! This may be a stupid question, but how do you hold down the seam allowance, whiles you sew?

Those are cool looking templates. I couldn't see your photo of the fabric (maybe my browser) but I'll try a different one, or look it up on the web.

I also think your hexies look great at the top of the post.

Oooh, I love the look of those templates, I might *need* some...

I do know what you mean about discovering fabrics aren't so much you, but I'm sure you'll find a welcome recipient :o)
