Bee Blocks

Gee's Bend inspired square in square block for Annabella

I actually made most of these blocks last Sunday, but it has taken me a while to show them off here. The first two are Gee's Bend inspired square in square blocks for Annabella in the Modern Stitching Bee.

I put these off until the end of the month. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed cutting curvy lines and sewing together blocks like these.

Modern Maples block for Marci

Marci sent fabrics to make Modern Maples blocks for Always Bee Learning.

These went together fast. Maybe it is a Canadian thing, but I sure want a quilt of these for me too.

Scrappy Low Volume Plus block for Di

Diane asked for these jewel tone and low volume plus blocks. There are no matching seams on these, they go together in no time at all.

I used charm squares from the last low volume swap I was in which made these even easier to make.

Spiderweb block and a quarter for Toni - Always Bee Learning

And this last set of string blocks was for Toni last month in Always Bee Learning. I need to remember to ask for these blocks in a bee one day as I love how they look but cannot see myself ever wanting to make a whole quilt of blocks. They are perfect bee blocks I think.

I am so loving the fact that I am in just two bees - great bees with wonderful bee mates and one where we use our own fabric and one where we receive fabric in the mail. I think this is just the right balance for me each month.

I have been quilting tonight on the long arm, I hope to show off my progress tomorrow. But I wanted to get a post up tonight. I changed the blog to it's own domain name - shecanquilt.ca - and I am hoping that you can still see it in your readers and on the internet. Do let me know if you experienced some difficulties or unusual stuff.

Best,

Leanne

  4. They are all so lovely :) Can I please ask what the fabric is on the first block, second border in from the outside? Thank you!

  5. Your blog came up in Bloglovin' with no problems at all despite the domain change. Love the bee blocks, and I find two bees is the right balance for me too. Not sure why cutting down from three made such a difference, but it does.

  7. Hi Leanne! Wonderful blocks! Those curves look exciting and a little bit scary as I haven't tried and don't have any idea how it should be done. x Teje

  9. I'm making spiderweb blocks and for some reason I DON'T like them at all! And I don't know how you can get your block to lie flat with those curves! There must be a trick to it! LOL!

  11. I tried to do a soft curve for Annabella and couldn't get them to iron flat....why is that, do you know?

  13. I can't wait to see my blocks Leanne - they are just perfect. I too reduced my bees to just two and it's much more manageable. How did I once cope with 5?

  15. I love all of these. modern maples are fun to sew up. I made one for my son and his wife as a wedding quilt. Perfect for an outdoor Canadian wedding ; ) Enjoy your swaps. Sounds like you do. That first block inspired by Gees bend is stunning!

  16. Lovely blocks - always feels good to have them done for the month, doesn't it? I still think Toni is so clever having us help with a Christmas quilt! And btw, I would love to hear more about the domain name. I own mine, but am not quite sure what to do with it - I still show up with 'blogspot' in my name...

  23. All of them are lovely, but I do so especially love mine! I think I wanted a modern maples quilt so badly because we kinda skip that season here and it never really feels like fall, so this quilt will be a replacement and reminder that it is actually fall!
