Trippy #1 - Ta Da!

Scrappy Trip

There is Trippy #1. I am pretty sure she is the one of a series of quilts I will make, as this quilt was fast and fun to make. That picture is of her all washed and dried and out in the sun. She is about 57" square after washing and has a scrappy binding too.

After suggesting to Laura Jane that quilting a cross hatch was too much work, that is what I went and did. I explained why I needed to be doing a fair bit of quilting here.

The cross hatch quilting along with all the other seams in this quilt resulted in a really lovely puffy diamond effect. This quilt is so cuddly and had a nice drape too.

Scrappy Trip - Back

For her back, I used this stunning IKEA print. I think it might be time to hit IKEA for more backing fabric, it is so fun and effective.

That photo really lets you see how the shrinking and pulling in of the thread and batting is what is adding the puffiness. I did prewash all the fabrics, including the back before I started this quilt.

Scrappy Trip

That photo is before the wash. You can see the prints a bit better. I did repeat some of them, as I had cut strips from yardage and had enough for more than one block with each cut. Many of my favourite fabrics can be found in this quilt.

Scrappy Trip - quilt roll

There are hundreds of quilters making this quilt on flickr and instagram (search #scrappytripalong). The excellent tutorial by Quiltville is here, if somehow you missed it earlier. I have already started a 2.5" strip pile, so I can add to it as I cut for other things so I can make another.

Trippy #1 is my second FAL finish. I hope you are getting some of your finishes done too. Remember March is longer than February, the days are brighter, the sun is out longer and I just feel lighter, now that the worst of the dark, cold winter is done. I hope you do too.

Best,

Leanne

  8. That is just lovely. I love both sides. I am going to find an IKEA one of these days and get some of those fabrics. They do not sell most of them online and we do not have one in our state to go to. It sure looks great with that big print.
Do you think you would have had to wash the fabrics before? They still crinkled up nicely. I wonder how much it would have been if not washed?

  11. Oh how wonderful is this! IKEA fabrics are fantastic for backing - large scale prints, 60" wide and cheap! WIN/WIN/WIN!!

  17. Love the quilt and love the idea of cutting strips ready to use for making another. Thanks for the links as I haven't jumped on the band wagon yet but have loved seeing all the quilts online. Can't you just imagine seeing all of them together in one place? It would be so so colorful.

  18. It looks gorgeous, Leanne. I love the crosshatch quilting.
I made four blocks but then decided to wait with making more until I've finished everything on my FAL list. It didn't work as I've started other things rather than working on my three last items :-)

  20. Love your Quilt Leanne, especially the crinkly look. Have tried buying from Ikea on line, but alas they do not post and there is no Ikea in New Zealand.-:((
I am stitching my strippy quilt from Aunt Grace fabrics, have just finished ironing all my fabrics so I can continue with the cutting.

  24. Lovely. So fun to have a cuddly quilt to snuggle in, even if winter is on the wane. I have another finish, too, but will wait until my Road posts are overwith. This FAL business really works!

  26. Fabulous finish! Love both the front and the back. On your lovely, crinkly quilt - I just finished one where all the fabrics were prewashed as well, and over 88" it shrunk a full 2". I was surprised at how much of the shrinkage is in the batting.
