Wednesday - WIP is happening again!

DSC_0966

Last night I joined the blocks for my Kaleidoscope Quilt. I missed all the QAL deadlines, but I am very happy with this quilt so far. The excellent QAL instructions from Elizabeth at Don't Call Me Betsy are here and the flickr group, where many many excellent variations on this classic pattern can be seen, is here.

Kaleidoscope - detail

Here is a closer view. I have to say, 12" blocks are so fast compared to the tiny mini quilt blocks I have been playing with lately. I am hoping to sandwich and quilt this one soon, maybe this weekend.

Scooty Patootie - For Katherine, Aqua & Orange Bee

This is Scooty Patootie! The paper pieced pattern is by Kirie at Shape Moth and, although it is complex, the pattern was excellent. This is a block I made for Katherine in my Aqua & Orange Bee.

Here is the other block I made her. Katherine asked for a vespa, circles and the letter "K". The fabrics she sent demanded to be made into cute patchwork so this is what I came up with. She sent us the vespa fabric - it is pretty cute itself.

I am waiting for some more background fabric to finish my Across the Sea QAL quilt as I have decided to make it 10 blocks bigger. I am playing with my palette for the Dead Simple QAL, and I am trying to organize myself so that I can get back into my other projects - including the Farmer's Wife and the Mystery Quilt. And easing into fall - back to school and work routines around my house, which is not that easy it seems.

I am linking to Lee at Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday. As usual, there is excellent progress to view there, I hope you take a look.

  4. Ok, is it ok to say I hate you? Now I only say this to people I admire and do incredible work. That vespa paper pieced block is to die for and I am going to find Katherine and make her a deal she can't refuse. Please know that this comment is sarcastic but I really love your work!

  16. Love those colors. Orange and Aqua just seem like they were made for each other don't they. I can't get paper piecing to work for me but I love the effect it gives. Maybe someday it will click but I think my brain just can't get the twisted and backwards thing to make sense to me.

The two blocks are great, paper piecing, argh, but oh it's so cute. I may just have to try more paper piecing.

  25. Leanne, Beautiful work! I am so glad to visit your website. The colors on the Kaleidoscope Quilt are not ones I would naturally pair together - I love Lime Green but almost never use it with Aqua...stunning. I'm so glad I popped in!

  29. Your kaleidoscope is just stunning, I love the mix of fresh brights with the neutral! I too have been doing smaller pieces lately and have started fantasising about bigger blocks that come together quickly. I just need to justify throwing my really need to get this done list out the window! The scooter is too cute too, love it.

  30. The scooter blocks are AWESOME!! My husband drives a scooter, has now for probably 6 or 7 years, so I have a special place in my heart for them...haha :) That paper piecing does look very complex but it came together beautifully.
