It's Giveaway Day at Sew Mama Sew. I have a beautiful bundle of Fat 1/8s to give away, courtesy of Michael Oakshott at Oakshott Fabrics. I have used Oakshott fabrics often in my quilts - if you are new here, you can check out the my quilts tab to see them, or look here, here, here and here.
This bundle of 12 fat 1/8s is called Lakes. Each of the 100% cotton fabrics is woven on a blue warp with different colours shot through as the weft. The challenge with these shot cottons is to capture in a photograph the shimmer that the different coloured weft threads creates. I went about looking for shining sun rays to help me out.
To win the giveaway, leave me just one comment per person and I will draw the winner randomly. Tell me about your favourite lake/ocean spot and why you like it or tell me about a lake/ocean location you are hoping to visit one day.
Please leave your email in your comment if you are not sure if you are a no-reply blogger (you can write it as yourname [at] emailservice [dot] com or whatever so that the email strippers won't recognize it if you are worried). If I cannot find you, you cannot win.
I wish you all good luck now, as there are too many comments to answer during giveaways. Oh, and if you have not yet been, head over to Sew Mama Sew to enter all the other giveaways that will be linked there this week.
Best,
Leanne

One of the most beautiful and colorful water I've ever experienced is Bloody Bay in Negril, Jamaica. The colors change all day long! But, thanks to vacations as a child in Virginia Beach, going to college on Maryland's eastern show and now taking summer vacations in the Outer Banks, my heart truly belongs to the Atlantic Ocean :-)
ReplyDeleteBahamas, is the most beautiful water I have ever seen. The water is so nice, just breathtakingly.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favourite ocean spot is a small sandy beach in Nova Scotia, where my family is lucky enough to have spent many summers. It's not the most scenic beach (for that, I'd need to pick Crystal Crescent Beach, NS), but I have a lot of great memories there and it's fun to explore.
ReplyDeleteThis bundle is gorgeous. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
My favorite place on earth is Point Reyes National Seashore north of San Francisco. And a foggy beach is no problem for my pale skin!
ReplyDeleteI don't think that there's a body of water that I've been to that I didn't like-- from the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico to the Caribbean and assorted ponds, lakes, streams and puddles in between (well, except all of the water that was hanging out in my basement last week). I absolutely love shot cottons, and this bundle reminds me of the shades of water against sky, and the sneaky ways those colors can change in the sun. thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to try oakshott... please.... be lucky ME!
ReplyDeleteI have only been once, but I went to an isthmus by Gulf Shores, Alabama with the gulf on one side and a bay on the other and you could see both at one time. When we drove up to our rental house, we could see dolphins playing from the street! Now that was magical!

Hi
ReplyDeleteI have never used these shot cottons although I have used shot silk at times, so I would love to try working with them.
My favourite lake location is in Algonquin Park ON, where we used to camp regularly. We actually found the spot where Tom Thompson sat to paint several of his paintings, especially the Maple.
For us it has lots of good memories and I have painted on fabric, a scene that is similar and then stitched over it with machine embroidery to create a landscape quilt.
Thanks for offering a special treat.
Beth Abbott

It is not a lake or ocean, but rather a pond in the north part of Kyoto, Japan, called Midorogaike. It is rumored that ghosts return in August to visit their relatives, and if they are thirsty they drink at this pond. That aside, it is just very pretty and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteI am sure there are many lakes and great ocean spots I could visit around the world. But I always feel bad that I've never made it to The Lake District in the UK as that would be nearest! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteThe most beautiful beach I ever ever visited was the blue clear waters off Isla Mujures in Mexico...ahhh, amazing. My favorite US beach is Folly Beach in SC near Charleston.
