Mod Pop - Ta Da!
My Mod Pop pattern testing quilt is all finished - quilted, bound, washed and dried. I am in love with this little quilt. I think I might need to make a larger one this fall.
It is about 42" x 49" and I used a Kona Poseidon Bundle and maybe a few extra greens and blues together with Kona Snow for the top and the scrappy binding.
I love this modern design made from squares and quarter circles. The pattern is by Julie Avant from Distant Pickles and will be available to buy in a few days. If you click here you can see the version Julie made with prints, it is wonderful. Julie has also given me one pattern to give away to one of you - I have made the grade, finally, as a pattern tester.
I had so much fun quilting this one. I wanted to densely quilt it and also to make it appear that the white chains were on top of the background swooshes and circles.
I used a creamy white Superior Threads King Tut thread for the white chains and followed the edges rather organically.
The coloured parts are quilted with a variegated blue Sulky thread. I marked the cross hatch with a hera marker, although I did not strive for perfect lines - I just tried to keep them on mostly the same angles so your eyes would see them as continuing under the white bits.
That picture above is before washing where you can see the quilting lines before the thread and batting shrinkage has made them tighten up. Also, I just love the swooshes that the background makes.
That picture is the whole quilt before washing. I have to say that it is just so much better after the wash and dry.
For the back I wanted a funky 70's style large print and this one from Karavan by Valori Wells was perfect. Also, I swear she used a Poseidon bundle to inspire her colours as the matches between the colours are amazing.
The pattern is easy to follow and is multi-sized. To win a copy of the pattern, just leave me a comment. Let me know what you think of this wonderful pattern and my quilted version of it - I will make sure to share the comments with Julie too - this is her first pattern, I am hoping she makes more.
And if you want a second chance to win, leave me a second comment with a name suggestion for my quilt, I think it should get its own name now that it is done, but I am out of ideas today. I will draw the winner next Friday.
** the giveaway is over, thank you for joining in.***
Edited to add: Please, please, make sure that your profile has your email or you add your email to your comments. I need to be able to reach you if you win!

I hope everyone has the best weekend, it looks like the sun will be out here.
Best,
Leanne
Oh it looks awesome, and love how you did the quilting on it. Now you've finished you can get your A++ :oD
ReplyDeleteThis turned out so stunning!!! I love the quilting.
ReplyDeleteHow about "Poseidon's Bubbles"? Maybe to cheesy for such a stunning quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely quilt, great use of solids. It looks so cool and refreshing, too!
ReplyDeleteOh I am in love with it, and I don't say that about solids quilts often (and most of those are yours!)!
ReplyDeleteIt's an amazing pattern x
I am thinking this one is the 'Groovy Baby'!
ReplyDeleteThis is really awesome. You totally came through as a pattern tester. The quilting adds such a nice vibe to the quilt and I think I mentioned on flickr how much I love the palette. I would be inclined to name it "Greek Sea" - "Greek" as a nod to the Greek God Poseidon, and "Sea" cuz that's what it makes me think of, with those blues and greens. oh, imho, that pieced binding is a perfect finishing touch.
ReplyDeleteI love it, absolutely bloody love it.
ReplyDeleteI'd call it the "gettin round the blues" quilt
ReplyDeleteWow! What a Ta Da! Absolutely fantastic Leanne - I should think you desrve that Pattern Tester certificate now.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your version of it - it is made by the colours, but especially by your quilting which is inspired and just perfect for it.
ReplyDeleteHow about "Groovy Bubbles"?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! Love the colors and the quilting. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI suggest 'Sea Glass' for the name. The colors and movement remind me of the ocean.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt pattern, it is so bold and would be a great man quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove your colours tho, and your quilting.
This is BRILLIANT. I will definitely be purchasing this pattern when it's available, I'm still nervous about curved lines, but you have to defeat your fears sooner or later, right?? :)
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with this quilt. The colors and fabrics are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason the name "Spectacles" keeps coming to me. They look a bit like continuous eyeglass frames running through the colors...
ReplyDeleteIi have yet to see a quilt made with this pattern that I don't like. Yours is stunning!
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect Leanne - just as it looks amazing in those beautiful sea colours, I imagine it would look amazing in warm colours. Love the sunny hammock shots - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHow about The Poseidon Adventure - the original was a 1970s film...
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt you made even better than the prints version. I love all of the blues and your quilting of it really brought out the pattern.
ReplyDeleteStunning quilt L! Love how you've quilted it too! I'm sure you've passed the test with flying colours! Jxo
ReplyDeleteThe shapes remind me of 1970's wallpaper, and the O shapes look like they are flowing through cool blue water. So how about 70's Stream? Jxo
ReplyDeleteI am seriously in love with this quilt pattern!! Every time I see this quilt, I want one too. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great pattern and I think your color choice did it justice. I also love the way you quilted it.
ReplyDeleteI just love this quilt. You have done an amazing job quilting it.
ReplyDeleteOh Leanne. I'm c.o.m.p.l.e.t.e.l.y in love with this quilt!
ReplyDeleteYep, utterly in love. Will definitely have to buy the pattern.
Or you could just pick me pick me :) :) haha
Fabulous. I love everything about this project. The pattern, the use of solids, your color choice, the quilting and I adore that Valori Wells print. Great finish.
ReplyDeleteHow about seaweed breeze or something.
ReplyDeleteMeh I'm useless at naming quilts, but it either looks like seaweed or glasses or bubbles to me :)
it is a beautiful quilt - your colours and quilting are just perfect on it, and the design is great!
ReplyDeletebecause you used a Poseidon bundle and the coloursare very watery (in a yummy way!) and the fact that the white cables look like bubbles to me, how about "Rising to the Top"
ReplyDeleteI love the way everything flows but still has some structure.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous!! The one in the prints is wonderful too. I must have this pattern:)
ReplyDeleteI would call it Tide (Tidal?) Pool Walk.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! And, yes, please give me a chance for the pattern. Great quilting job. Perfection all around.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loooove the quilting! And would love to win the pattern. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! So glad I followed this pin!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You do such stunning work Leanne! There must be a book of patterns forthcoming! And I've just realised you are GIVING a pattern away! Thanks for your generosity!
ReplyDeletefantastic quilt - i have the exact same bundle so will have to get me a pattern!!!
ReplyDeleteI see some people have suggested Sea Glass! That's what I called my sister's wall quilt! My suggestion is Mod Foam. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteand i'd call it 'sea foam'
ReplyDeleteNicely done. The quilt is lovely. Would love to give this pattern a try. It is really one of the most interesting patterns I've seen in a long time and I love the kona solids.
ReplyDeleteAnd frankly, I think this one has to have a "water" name. Poseidon is a great name for it really. Or, since my daughter is named "Arielle" the name "Under the Sea" comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteCan't WAIT to make this!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt! Love the beachy colors. Like many other commenters, it reminds me of sea glass! Haven't done a whole lot of sewing with curves, but this pattern is one of those that inspires me to try it out!
ReplyDeletearbendlin(at)gmail.com
Fantastic...Stunning love the colours you have used.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors you have used in this pattern. It is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking quilt! You could throw any fabrics you wanted at this pattern and they'd work.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible with coming up with names for things. But how about "In the Groove"?
ReplyDeleteLeanne, you do it every time, this is another awesome one! I especially love how it looks after washing and drying. I love what you did with the quilting, it emphasises the illusion that the quilt top is in two layers. And I love the scrappy binding.
ReplyDeleteThe pattern itself is great, too. I can imagine various combinations of prints and/or solids for it and can't think of one that wouldn't look good :)
Another beautiful quilt Leanne! I love those ocean colours!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous quilt! I love the colours you've used!
ReplyDeleteHow about something along the 'mermaid' line with all those wonderful curves like a mermaid's tale!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great pattern that I am definitely going to make. Yours is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking "Ball and Chain"!
ReplyDeleteAn absolutely lovely quilt!!! I am seriousky tempted to try to make one, though I am a bit scared of curves... But this is gorgeous, truly gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWell, a name for this... Maybe Blue sea bubbles?
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours, I'd love to make one with a patterned back groun and a plain fabric for the top pattern.
How about Poseidon's Rings?
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it! Actually, I adore it! I don't usually buy/follow patterns but this is probably going to be an exception to that 'rule' as I think it's fabulous! Definitely an A* for your pattern-testing skills!
ReplyDeleteI'm useless at thinking of names for quilts but it reminds me of a canoe/kayak slalom course (or a boating lake after a water-skiing competition) so I'd suggest something like 'in the wake' or 'white water'. And now I keep thinking of either 'puddles' or 'Islands in the stream'...and I can't get that song out of my head!!! I'm not convinced by any of them so I may be back once I locate my brain ;o)
ReplyDeleteBubbles at the Ocean?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking summer picnic at the beach with the kids running around with bubble wands :)
I think the quilting technique you used is great. I'm going to keep that one in mind!
Love this quilt done in solids. And the quilting is just completely stunning.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely fabulous Leanne...and in my favourite colour scheme too!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern for a number of reasons--1. it's definitely a modern visual. 2. I like the curves and they aren't as hard as people might think--just a few drunkard's paths, here and there. 3.the color choices I've seen so far are amazing--this is such a versatile quilt! 4. I want to be ready for the quit along 'cause I know there will be one. Or at least there should!
ReplyDeleteThe quilting here is really striking! I wouldn't have the patience for it, but you sure did know what would look good! Names are hard---How about "An Ocean Away"? It has oceanic colors and then it's almost like you're looking through the white (goggles?) to see it, as though it's far away.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the colors and design of this quilt! Makes me feel like I'm riding along with the waves :)
ReplyDeleteHow about "Catch a Wave"?
ReplyDelete60's surfer name. It's like totally tubular! I love everything about it. These are my absolute favorite colors and pattern is awesome.
ReplyDeletewonderful pattern and lovely quilt
ReplyDeleteRefreshing new pattern. Your blues make me think "ocean". I looked at Julie's version and I think "salad bowl"
ReplyDeleteYour colors and quilting choices are just perfect! Love the pattern and your version is exceptional. I would love to win!
ReplyDeleteHow about "Poseidon's Waves" for the name?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!!!! Front and back!!! Congrats on being a pattern tester!!!! Love the colors you used too!!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this quilt! great job!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and the quilting on this, and you chose a perfect backing. Looks like a fun pattern :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love your quilting - you really did achieve the look of the white sitting on top of the colours. And I love this use of curves - it really is lovely - I already have plans for this pattern!
ReplyDeleteName suggestions from the assembled mother and mother-in-law: my mum said "spectacles" (that's the shape she can see in the white); mother-in-law started with "cascade", then "hourglass" and then "diablo" I look forward to seeing which of the many above suggestions you go with! A truly beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love your backing and your quilting and your color choices are right up my alley. I can't wait to get my hands on this pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern in the cool tones you used as well as the original in the warm colors. How about Oolong as a name
ReplyDeleteWonderful pattern and what a brilliant job you did with it. Awesome !
ReplyDeleteFabulous all around!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat names are being suggested! lol Great quilt and that backing is so cool!

this is so beautiful. i love the quilting on the white.
ReplyDeleteOh wow this is one spectacular quilt! What I really like is that Julie lets you put your personality into it - it has great room to adapt to your stash, to prints or solids, soft or bright colors. Great job, Julie! I'd love to make a quilt like this.
ReplyDeleteA name...Waterfalls. I haven't been through the 93 (!!!) comments above me and I'm sure it's already there. The white looks like water to me and the blue the rocks that stick out of the cliff. I love how water goes white as it goes around a jetting rock.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job on this beauty, Leanne! I'd love to win the pattern and give it a try.Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt made me think of keyholes for some reason, so how about Key to Poseidon.
ReplyDeletelove the color choice here. reminds me of water.
ReplyDeletefirst thing i thought of was 'swirling neptune'.
ReplyDeleteLove, love it! I like your color choices better than the print version. Lynn B

ReplyDeleteIts a beautiful quilt and I'd love to make it - it would look equally good in yellows or greens I think.
ReplyDeleteI'd call this gorgeous quilt Seaweed, the colours of the sea and the twists look to me like seaweed underwater.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this pattern. It is so retro :)
ReplyDeleteSusanne

ReplyDeleteI would name it "Swirlpool" :)

ReplyDeleteAn dour quilting is lovely! I like the alternating types of quilting, really effective on this quilt.
And I think it looks like an "under the sea" quilt.
ReplyDeleteI also liked what some one else suggested Posiedon's bubbles. Or Posiedon's Pop.
This is such a beautiful quilt! I love how it looks with all the solids :)
