I had to unpick a backing this week for at least three times. I used a row of blocks for the middle of the backing which edges were cut on the bias. The two fabric panels I attached were looking curvy and awry. I would never have been able to baste the quilt properly. After using lots of pins it now looks fine...dutchcomforthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02986021480546345435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049028683848104380.post-63104494275199202312013-11-26T13:55:32.214-07:002013-11-26T13:55:32.214-07:00Oh - that's happened to me more than a few tim...Oh - that's happened to me more than a few times, even when I'm being careful - the pressure is too heavy on my presser foot and I can't adjust it, it's one of the reasons I almost exclusively FMQ except on small projects. I've ripped back quite a few quilts and I feel your pain, its a horrible job to do. The right choice though and it will be gorgeous when its done!Sarah @ FairyFace Designshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17181786172902664738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049028683848104380.post-61557619902752489732013-11-25T08:32:04.277-07:002013-11-25T08:32:04.277-07:00It does look a million times better the second tim...It does look a million times better the second time around - you would have been so annoyed with yourself if you just looked the other way and ignored the pull. If it was me I would have just kept going, but then I have had to cover the World's largest pucker on the back of my latest quilt with the World's largest label (I honestly think it could be a contender, more on that on my blog later this week) so I am a bodger, I don't strive for perfection.pennydoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09425898433355516938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049028683848104380.post-14643515940082583752013-11-24T23:30:32.261-07:002013-11-24T23:30:32.261-07:00Well done! When I do matchstick quilting, I quilt lines one or two inches apart and then fill in in between - I think it helps reduce distortion. It's interesting to read your experiences too and see how much difference working with a larger quilt can make!Adrianne @ On the Windy Sidehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03259356674983165185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049028683848104380.post-45682489152213922352013-11-24T13:16:53.050-07:002013-11-24T13:16:53.050-07:00Thank you for sharing all your ups and downs. Have you considered doing a few lines of quilting in the unquilted areas to anchor things a bit before you get to the matchstick quilting? Or would that totally mess with your flow?
